JASSS aka Silvia Jiménez Alvarez honed her craft playing in hardcore bands in Spain where her appetite for industrial music, techno and EBM began to flourish. This is evident on her first 12”s on Mannequin and Anunnaki Cartel released following her move to Berlin. Reacting to what can sometimes seem a bland electronic music scene: JASSS’ productions instill a raw energy to parties. Most recently, her 2017 debut album ‘Weightless’ on iDEAL and her track ‘Little Lines’ for Lena Willikens’ Dekmantel Selectors compilation showed a more experimental, multi-dimensional side to her productions, yet, still had a focus on the dancefloor. Her DJ sets mimic this style; she isn’t shy of more experimental sounds, yet she never lets her sets fall into total abstraction. She generates an intense but natural flow through varying atmospheres and sounds.
‘Weightless’ was widely regarded as one of the year’s best albums by critics and club goers alike. The record fits perfectly under umbrella of experimental electronic music but draws influences ranging from free jazz and African rhythms to ambient and industrial music. Before this breakthrough release, JASSS had been regarded highly within the Berlin scene due to her unpredictable, thrilling and audacious DJ sets, spanning the best of what FACT magazine described as ‘Ragged DIY electronix, EBM and experimental techno’ playing at Berghain’s Säule and Mannequin Records parties. A recent Resident Advisor ‘Breaking Through’ feature discussed her ‘no-bullshit attitude’ that shapes both the music she makes and her eclectic DJ sets. “I guess the whole point behind playing records in this kind of situation (at a club) is to remember whats the opposite of pretentious”
We’ve decided to cap the event capacity by 20% in order to promote as comfortable a dance floor as possible for this one – you’ll be thanking us when it gets proper sweaty.
